Story Overview
The narrator buys an old roll-top desk and finds a hidden letter written by British soldier Jim Macpherson to his wife Connie describing the miraculous Christmas Truce of 1914, where German and British soldiers put down their weapons in No Man's Land to share food, drinks, and play football. Decades later, the narrator visits 101-year-old Connie in a nursing home to return the letter, which she mistakes for Jim's promised Christmas return.
