VSEPR Theory and MOT
VSEPR Repulsion Order:
$$\text{Lone Pair - Lone Pair} > \text{Lone Pair - Bond Pair} > \text{Bond Pair - Bond Pair}$$
Molecular Orbital Theory (MOT):
Bond Order $= \frac{1}{2}(N_b - N_a)$.
- If Bond Order $> 0$, molecule is stable; if unpaired electrons exist in MOs, it is paramagnetic (e.g., $O_2$ is paramagnetic with 2 unpaired electrons in $\pi^*2p$ orbitals).
