The Historic Inauguration
On 10th May 1994, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was sworn in as South Africa's first Black President, marking the historic triumph over decades of brutal institutionalized racial discrimination (Apartheid).
The ceremony took place at the Union Buildings amphitheatre in Pretoria, attended by dignitaries from over 140 nations, inaugurating a "Rainbow Nation" founded on non-racial democracy.
Key Philosophical Concepts:
- Meaning of Courage: Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
- Twin Obligations of Every Man:
- First obligation to his family, parents, wife, and children.
- Second obligation to his people, community, and country.
- The Oppressor and the Oppressed: Both are robbed of their humanity. A man who takes away another man's freedom is a prisoner of hatred and prejudice.
